West Virginia made a Big East tournament-record 17 3-pointers and the seventh-seeded Mountaineers beat Providence 92-79 in the opening round Wednesday night.
Aaron Gray took control inside to finish with 22 points after sitting out much of the first half in foul trouble, and Pittsburgh rallied in the second half to shake off stubborn Providence's upset bid and win 74-68 Saturday.
