Canadian financier George Gosbee emerged Thursday as part of a group of fellow Canadian investors who hope to close a deal to purchase the Phoenix Coyotes from the NHL for $170 million, a source told ESPN.com.

Greg Jamison, the main suitor for the Coyotes, cannot produce the capital needed to purchase the team from the NHL and a Jan. 31 deadline to maintain a critical lease agreement with Glendale will pass without a deal, multiple sources have told ESPN.com.
