ESPN has until Thursday to match NBC Sports Network's seven-year, $20-$23 million per year offer to retain the Big East's media rights, league sources told ESPN.
When Syracuse announced last year it was leaving the Big East for the ACC, former Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese said it "ripped out the heart" of the league's seven Catholic basketball schools.
Tulane joined the Big East in all sports on Tuesday, becoming the latest addition to the rapidly rebuilding conference. East Carolina also is headed to the Big East as a football-only member. Both schools will join the league in 2014.
