Russia got two late goals to beat the United States 5-3 in a hard fought game, while Canada scored four unanswered goals en route to a 7-1 rout of Norway on Tuesday at the ice hockey world championships.
Two other leagues, the WUSA and Women's Professional Soccer, both came and went. But the NWSL has a smarter business plan, with the backing of the national federations from the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Other countries have shown significant improvement, but the U.S. and Canada still dominate women's hockey. With a little more money and resources at their disposal, most countries likely would be much more competitive.
