The caretakers of college sports long ago stopped worrying about the fans or the student-athletes. It became about them, about their egos and their legacies, about the aphrodisiac-laced cocktail of power and greed. And so it is again.
On the same weekend its founder passed away, the Big East as we know it forever changed with the sudden defections of Syracuse and Pitt -- with more likely to come. Dave Gavitt would've been embarrassed by the hypocrisy and greed of it all.
