Raiders owner Al Davis, whose legend began 60 years ago as an assistant coach with the San Diego Chargers and included a 1992 Hall of Fame induction in Canton, has died at 82.

Like Lane Kiffin, who was jettisoned by the Raiders this week, Mike Shanahan was fired by Al Davis four games into the 1989 season with a pledge by the enigmatic owner not to pay him what was left on his contract.

After a few warmup questions, Lane Kiffin was asked to describe working for Al Davis. The Oakland Raiders coach paused.
