The Big 12 tournament tips off Wednesday in Kansas City. Here are five things to look for during the opening-day action.

Big 12 teams have a good argument that conference records don't tell whole story.

Blake Griffin might be gone, but plenty of star power returns in the loaded Big 12, which can flex its muscles with the preseason No. 1 (KU), a legit Final Four contender (Texas) and a host of others lurking just behind.

Defending a national championship is hard enough, but try doing it without a single returning starter and with seven newcomers. That's Bill Self's problem this season, and improving Oklahoma and Texas teams look ready to knock off the Jayhawks.
