    Soccernet staff

The United States will face Australia in a World Cup warm-up game in Johannesburg on June 5. Both sides face tough opening World Cup fixtures, with the US kicking off their campaign against England on June 12, while the Socceroos play Germany. The match will be played in Roodepoort, a suburb of Johannesburg, and is seen as an important test for the US. US coach Bob Bradley said: "The match against Australia gives us a great opportunity to give the team a challenge a week before our opening match". "Australia demonstrated in 2006 that they're a team capable of competing at the World Cup. A match against a quality opponent on South African soil at that point in our preparations will help our readiness for the game against England." The US, who have been boosted by the recent return to fitness of Fulham's Clint Dempsey, have never beaten Australia, drawing 0-0 in 1998 in San Diego and losing 1-0 in Orlando in 1992. The US also have warm-up matches at home against the Czech Republic on May 25 and Turkey on May 29, before leaving for South Africa.
